The proceeds from this show benefit the Shriners Hospitals for Children and we hope you will find this informative about the Shriners. The Shriner’s Hospitals for Children is a network of 18 orthopedic hospitals, 3 burn hospitals and 1 hospital that provides orthopedic, burn, and spinal cord injury care. Children up to their 18 th birthday receive excellent medical care regardless of the patient’s ability to pay. There are approximately 325,000 Shriners from 193 temples (chapters) in the US, Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, Puerto Rico and the Republic of Panama. The Shrine supported various charities almost from its inception in 1872. In 1920, however, the organization voted to adopt its own official philanthropy, dedicated to providing orthopedic care to children in need, and the first Shriner’s Hospital was built in Shreveport, LA in 1922. The Shrine’s philanthropy eventually expanded to 22 “Centers of excellence”. Children up to age 18 with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate are eligible for care and receive all services in a family-centered environment. All proceeds from the Carter Co. Shrine Club paper sales and “passing the bucket” at our local events are given to the hospital fund and/or hospital transportation fund.
